Course Length: 5 days combined Energy Auditor and QCI

Multifamily Energy Auditor Course Description

This course is designed for WAP personnel who presently perform and/or having a working knowledge of multifamily auditing and/or multifamily project management and/or multifamily post inspections on low to mid-rise multifamily units of wood, steel, or masonry construction. These buildings can be centrally heated/DHW or individually heated/DHW. This course is based on the NREL Multifamily Energy Auditor Job Task Analysis (JTA) which can be found at:  https://www.nrel.gov/docs/fy14osti/60447.pdf  This course is specifically tailored to those in WAP who can document prior experience performing one or more of the following:

  •  initial multifamily audits or assessments and/or
  •  has managed multifamily WAP projects to completion and/or
  •  has post inspected completed multifamily projects and/or
  • are presently employed as a State WAP grantee technical monitor

Additional Required Prerequisites:  Attendees must hold current BPI HEP Energy Auditor and HEP Residential QCI certifications.

Please submit your short resume detailing your previous or current multifamily experience and other work or training experience that is relevant to multifamily projects plus copies of your current HEP certification documents to [email protected]  at time of registration. The course instructor will review prior to the course date to determine your eligibility to sit for the course and final test. All course attendees that pass the final 25 question multifamily test will receive a NYSWDA Certificate of Successful Completion.

Course Handouts: Attendees will be provided a NYSWDA Multifamily Energy Auditor Course Manual covering all material presented in the course.

Final Course Evaluation: Students will take a written 25 question multiple choice written assessment at the end of the course. Students must score a final passing score of 70 to receive NYSWDA’s Certificate of Completion.


 Multifamily QC Inspector Course Description

This course is designed for WAP personnel who presently perform and/or having a working knowledge of multifamily auditing and/or multifamily project management and/or multifamily post inspections on low to mid rise multifamily units of wood, steel, or masonry construction. These buildings can be centrally heated/DHW or individually heated/DHW.

This course is based on the NREL Multifamily QC Inspector Job Task Analysis (JTA) which can be found at:  http://www.nrel.gov/docs/fy14osti/60537.pdf and is IREC accredited.

This course is specifically tailored to those in WAP who can document experience performing one or more of the following:

  •  initial multifamily audits or assessments and/or
  •  has managed multifamily WAP projects to completion and/or
  •  has post inspected completed multifamily projects and/or
  •  has a current BPI Multifamily Building Analyst Certification and/or
  •  has a current BPI HEP QC Inspector Certification and/or
  • Is presently employed as a WAP grantee technical monitor

Pre-requisites: Please submit your HEP QCI certificate, or your BPI MF Building Analyst certificate, or a short resume detailing your previous or current multifamily experience and other work or training experience that is relevant to multifamily projects to [email protected]  at time of registration. The course instructor will review prior to the course date to determine your eligibility to sit for the course and final test. All course attendees that pass the final 50 question multifamily test will receive a NYSWDA Certificate of Successful Completion which meets the Multifamily QCI training requirements of the revised DOE Quality Work Plan.

 Trainer’s Bio 

Matt Redmond- Director of Training  

Matt Redmond, NYSWDA’s Director of Training, has 35 years of experience as a tradesman and construction manager in multifamily, and single-family residential construction and offers a fresh hands-on approach to technical training. His background in project management and residential building with an emphasis on finely crafted energy-efficient buildings led him to be the project manager on the first net-zero energy retrofit in the US, a USDOE testbed project, for Asdal Builders of New Jersey. 

Matt is an EPA certified Lead Abatement Supervisor, an EPA Lead Renovator Instructor, holds an EPA 608 Universal Refrigerant Recovery License, and is AARST NRPP certified in radon residential measurement, system design, and mitigation. He is an authorized OSHA outreach Construction Safety Instructor. Matt is also a BPI Proctor and holds certifications in Building Analyst, Envelope Professional, Heating Professional, AC/HP Professional, Air Sealing and Insulation Installer (WHALCI), Manufactured Housing Professional, HEP Energy Auditor, HEP QC Inspector, Healthy Homes Evaluator, Infiltration and Duct Leakage (IDL) Testing . .
