Although IN-CAA has an extensive history of providing training for the weatherization assistance program personnel and state staff, IN-CAA recognized the need to expand training in order to enable each Community Action Agency (CAA) in Indiana to enhance their staff professionally, educate their communities about the issues of poverty, and secure resources to provide needed services to their target populations.
As a result, since 1997, IN-CAA has partnered with State Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) administrator to develop a series of training opportunities for CAA staff and board members. This training initiative became known as the Indiana Training Institute (ITI). To date IN-CAA has been the sole administrator providing non-weatherization training to Community Action Agencies. Through this role, IN-CAA has administered every aspect of coordination, planning, and delivery of training activities and projects contracted to ITI. Over the years, ITI has grown and not only includes trainings identified by CAA’s, but now includes: regional meetings, quarterly meetings with CAA Executive Directors, partnership meetings, and an annual statewide CAA conference. These additional training opportunities and dialogues with State have been found to be very helpful by CAA’s.
